🚗 Take I-10 West to the turn-off for SR-85 (Exit 112).
🛣️ Take SR-85 south to Gila Bend (approximately 42 miles).
🍔 Drive through the town of Gila Bend and just before you get to the McDonald’s turn right onto SR-85 – just before the turn you will see a sign that says “Mexico”.
🌵 Continue driving on SR-85 through Ajo, AZ (approximately 43 miles) to the US/Mexico border at Lukeville, AZ (approximately 38 miles).
🌎 After crossing the border, continue through the town of Sonoyta (carefully obey speed limits as they are posted in kilometers per hour NOT miles per hour!). You will make 2 turns in the town of Sonoyta – just follow the clearly marked signs to Puerto Peñasco (Puerto Peñasco Rocky Point Driving Directions continue approximately 60 miles).
🛤️ After passing through the town of Sonoyta, continue on Mexico Highway 8 until you reach the bridge at the outskirts of Rocky Point and the turn-off for Laguna Del Mar/El Golfo de Santa Clara will be on your right.
🚦 Continue down the turn-off, passing the railroad tracks to the Stop Sign (ALTO). At the Stop Sign turn left and continue to drive towards the Sandy Beach resorts – you will see many high-rise condominium complexes in the distance.
⛽ You will reach another stop sign and there will be a gas station on your left. Bear right through the traffic circle and continue on the road through the arches up and over a small hill (watch for the speed bumps – called “TOPES”).
🍹 Turn left at Bandito’s Restaurant – and continue to the traffic circle – then turn right and you will see the Las Palmas Guard Gate.
